|Title:||Samuel McMahan Treason Indictment and Summonses|
This collection consists of one indictment of treason issued by the State of Tennessee Circuit Court for Samuel M. McMahan and 13 summonses for McMahan that were sent to the Sherriff of Sevier County, Tennessee, between the years of 1865 and 1868.
The indictment states that McMahan did "enlist in the army of the so-called Confederate States of America... and carrying on the said and open public war, insurrection and rebellion so traitorously commenced."
The summonses were sent to the Sherriff of Sevier County, Tennessee, requesting that Samuel McMahan be brought before the Judge of the Circuit Court. On the back of each summons the Sherriff's office writes that a search has been made and the defendant was not found in his county.
