Title:Porter-Rice Family papers

The Porter-Rice Family papers range over a 100-year period, from 1826-1927. The collection is composed chiefly of correspondence, bit also includes a sizable amount of business papers. The letters primarily consist of those between family members, but a number of them are form friends and associates. Most notable among the letters are those written by Lt. Coil Edward Porter to his wife, Martha Rice Porter during the Civil War, which contain interesting and enlightening descriptions of confederate Army life. They are valuable in their revelations of the thoughts and feeling of a Southerners; and more distinctly a Confederate officer, and the progress of the war.
